September 18, 2025

Dear Members and Friends of Coastal Virginia Medical Society:
In the final hours of 2024, Congress passed a six-month extension of the Medicare telehealth flexibilities through its 2025 funding bill, pushing the expiration date to September 30, 2025. Now, with that deadline quickly approaching, many telehealth providers are left wondering whether Congress will act in time.
As things stand today, it is uncertain whether the Medicare telehealth flexibilities will be extended.
Please consider sending the following letter to your U.S. Congressperson and Senator to encourage them to extend the Medicare telehealth flexibilities (You may edit it as you wish):
Dear _____________________,
Medicare's expanded coverage of telehealth services is due to expire on September 30, 2025, unless Congress acts. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, many patients and physicians have come to rely on Telehealth due to its ability to
overcome barriers like transportation, mobility challenges, and access to medical and behavioral health specialists. This is a central part of medical care for millions of Medicare beneficiaries.
As you know, access to medical care is already severely limited across the U.S., especially for the elderly and those who live in rural areas. It is important to improve and at lease maintain what access to health care that our patients still have. Our failing healthcare system is in dire need of your support. Please don’t allow it to get any worse. We already rank at the bottom of all developed countries for medical care for our citizens.
I am respectfully requesting as one of your constituents and as a physician who watches erosion of access to care on a daily basis to please consider voting in favor of extending telehealth coverage for Medicare patients.
Thank you so much for your consideration and support of physicians and patients who use telehealth
to allow access to care for the many patients who need it.
Best regards,
