CVMS Committees

scroll

Most organizations require a committee structure to help divide the work, accept certain  responsibilities and be accountable to the Board for working on certain challenges and finding solutions. CVMS is no different. As an active organization interacting within our three cities, CVMS has many of those same challenges that need to be carefully considered and acted upon to maintain our function, support our mission and provide the service to the community that we intended to do from the beginning. Currently, all of our functions are being managed by just a few people. But as we grow, we definitely need to spread out the workload, become more efficient and not be so dependent upon so few individuals.

If you are interested in becoming a committee member for something important - a medical community that works to improve healthcare for all, a brotherhood of physicians that can provide benefits for ourselves, the community and our patients that only a group can accomplish, please send an email now to cvmedsoc@gmail.com.

Advocacy Committee:

The Advocacy Committee is composed of several members of CVMS who are interested in working on the following (These are suggestions to be decided on by the Committee):

  • Creating proposals for us to make to the Medical Society of Virginia at our annual October meeting (Indentifying a problem (Whereas) and creating a solution (Resolution).
  • Personally inviting legislators to our membership meetings.
  • Writing newspaper articles regard the problems we are facing in healthcare today.
  • Writing one advocacy article per month that will be published in our newsletter.
  • Arrange meetings with legislators.
  • Asking legislators to give talks at our meetings.
  • Consider becoming a delegate or alternate delegate to attend the yearly MSV meeting to vote on multiple important issues and to support our policies. We need 5 delegates and 5 alternate delegates in case one or more of the delegates can't make it to the meeting.
  • Make recommendations to the CVMS Board that will enhance our advocacy program.

Meetings are held every month on the second Wednesday at 7PM by Zoom.

Roman Fasces: A symbol of strength and power due to the bundling of many into one united entity.

The Roman Fasces was a symbol of strength and power occurring as a result of many binding together. It was made of multiple elm or birchwood rods about 5 feet long tied together and sometimes including an axe. It was carried by attendants to soldiers or powerful figures in ancient Rome. For us, it symbolizes that we are stronger and more powerful if we bind together in supporting our goals.
