Supporting Advocacy, Community, and Professional Growth

Dear Members and Friends of the Coastal Virginia Medical Society,

We hope this letter finds you well and thriving in both your professional and personal pursuits. As we approach the time for our annual membership drive, we want to take a moment to highlight the vital role that your continuing interest and contributions play in sustaining our Society and the many benefits you stand to receive as a valued member. The Importance of Dues Payment

To our Current Members:

Your dues are much more than just a membership fee—they are an investment in the ongoing work and advocacy of the Coastal Virginia Medical Society. They enable us to persist in our mission to represent and support medical professionals throughout our region, ensuring that your voice is heard on matters impacting healthcare delivery, policy, and practice.

To Physician Friends and Prospective Members:

For those friends who continue to receive our free newsletter (CVMS Bulletin) but have not yet decided on membership, we hope you will join us as full supporters of our mission and accept the benefits we offer as outlined below. We truly need your membership dollars to support the exemplary service, the advocacy and social events that have been available to you. We wish to continue to provide this opportunity for ALL physicians in Norfolk, Chesapeake and Virginia Beach to take advantage of what we have to offer. We will continue to invite you to all of our events and provide the monthly updates of what we are doing to improve healthcare in our communities. And we remain grateful for your continuing interest and your service to healthcare in Eastern Virginia.

There is no more honorable profession than serving people who trust you with their lives. Physicians and Surgeons who work tirelessly and compassionately to help their patients stay alive or control suffering are truly a special breed of people who deserve honor and recognition for their work. They deserve a society in which they receive that honor and recognition. And they deserve a special Society in which they can find fellowship, enjoyment, and professional collegiality and one that will work for them.

We all have the same goals. We provide and insist on excellent patient care. We want to be treated fairly for the dedication to our patients and to the public welfare that we provide. We all wish for and strive to provide the best healthcare system in the world, but there are barriers to overcome to get to those goals. Here is what we are doing to get there.Advocacy Efforts

·      Legislative Representation: The Society actively engages with local, state, and national legislators to advocate for policies that benefit physicians and protect patient care.

·      Professional Support: We provide guidance and resources addressing regulatory changes and challenges in the medical field.

·      Collective Action: By coming together, we amplify our influence and achieve meaningful change for the medical community.

·      When we go to Advocacy Meetings throughout the year and to the Annual Medical Society of Virginia Meeting in October, and when we stand up in those meetings and talk about improving workloads for physicians, increasing access to care, and increasing Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, please know that we are advocating for ALL physicians in Eastern Virginia, not just the dues-paying members.

·      I have heard from a reliable source that attorneys and lawmakers are gearing up for a major medical malpractice fight in the next session of the Virginia House of Delegates. We need all the support we can get to fight against this.Social and Professional Activities

·      Networking Events: Regular mixers, dinners, and gatherings foster camaraderie among members and offer opportunities to share insights and experiences.

·      Educational Programs: Seminars, workshops, and guest lectures help you stay current in the ever-evolving medical landscape.

·      Community Outreach: Through our Society, members can participate in initiatives that make a difference in the lives of patients and the broader community. We have partnered with Eastern Virginia Medical School and Virginia Health Sciences to assist medical students and residents with mentorship on subjects not usually offered in the usual medical school curriculum regarding business, finance, starting a practice, joining a practice, leadership, prevention of burnout, etc.

·      We support physicians in training by providing emergency funding and scholarships for them when needed.

·      We are partnering with Access College and the Krueger Medical Scholars Program to assist high school students in observing and shadowing physicians in their offices and in the hospital to help them decide if a career in healthcare is right for them.Additional Member Benefits

·      Access to exclusive member resources and communications

·      Opportunities for leadership and professional development

·      Discounts on Society-sponsored events and programs

·      Support from a dedicated network of peers

·      We have a trusted network of attorneys, accountants, wealth managers, lenders, IT and AI Services, and other professionals to which we can refer you when needed.

·      We can usually find prior records on patients when your office has given up.

·      We can research almost any medical topic, provide you with a report with references and the best medical facilities to which you can refer patients for that condition.

Your continued membership and timely payment of dues make all these advantages possible. We urge you to renew your commitment to the Society and to one another by submitting your dues at your earliest convenience.

Please remember as you contemplate this letter that the Board members remain completely voluntary in their service and pay the same annual dues as all the members. We remain grateful for the opportunity to serve and are dedicated to the responsibilities with which we have been entrusted.

If you have any questions about dues or membership benefits, please do not hesitate to contact our office. Call us if there is anything we can do to help you or your office. Together, we can ensure that the Coastal Virginia Medical Society remains a vibrant and effective advocate for physicians and the communities we serve.

Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement.

Sincerely,

The Coastal Virginia Medical Society Board:

Dr. Greg Warth

Dr. Keith Berger

Dr. Peter Vangeertruyden

Dr. Robert Bernstein

Dr. Alexandria Berger

Exec. Dir. Diane Warth

Roman Fasces: A symbol of strength and power due to the bundling of many into one united entity.

The Roman Fasces was a symbol of strength and power occurring as a result of many binding together. It was made of multiple elm or birchwood rods about 5 feet long tied together and sometimes including an axe. It was carried by attendants to soldiers or powerful figures in ancient Rome. For us, it symbolizes that we are stronger and more powerful if we bind together in supporting our goals.
